25 years ago I saw a guy get shot and killed by the police while stopping to eat at this Denny’s.

Was after the countdown, so there were a ton of other people looking to get in. The restaurant had a line long enough that we were waiting outside.

Police pulled a car over at the automotive glass place in the background.

Cop pulled center behind the car. Nothing crazy at first. Looked like a regular stop.

Then a second car behind the first.

Then a third car to the left of the others.

First cop got on megaphone telling the driver to exit the vehicle.

Then a passenger hopped out of the back right door, then hopped back in. That part was weird.

If I remember right, it was a woman. Almost like she hopped out because she was scared. Not to be in the car, but because of the situation. And hopping out to see guns drawn made her more scared, so she got back in.

Then car rolled super slow, just a titch. Like the driver went to put it in park, and know how it rolls a few inches as the gear settles? Like that.

Not aggressive at all.  But then all hell broke loose. Cops started yelling aggressively.

Driver was doing nothing at all. Literally nothing.

And then… 💥

The police shot through the back window, between the two passengers, and shot the driver.

My friend and I were taken to the police station for questioning since we were witnesses.

Not sure I’ll go as willing next time, because it was more like a 2 hour interrogation.

Split my friend and I up, which I understand.

They kept asking if the car rammed the cops. The whole time they acted like I committed a crime. Like I was lying. Like they wanted to hear me say that the driver did something crazy. He did not.

After reconnecting with my friend, he felt he same way.
