Fresh back from travels, one of my kids just told me their friend said, “Yeah, because your dad’s rich and owns his own business.“
I don’t blame the kid. I grew up in a low income household with a scarcity mindset family.
I used to do things like say I had to go home when my friends told me they were going to go snowboarding, because I didn’t have equipment or money to go. I would basically get out before they could even invite me to make myself feel more comfortable.
Having been that young kid who doesn’t know what he doesn’t know, that’s why sometimes I invite my kids friends on trips. To show them what the world looks like.
And I was certain to tell my kid that there’s nothing wrong with money or owning your own business.
