One of my team members just graduated college.
When I started SEO National 17 years ago, I had no idea what I was doing from a business perspective. just knew I enjoyed doing stuff online, and helping people with their websites.
I also had no idea that “helping people” would become the main driving factor in all areas of business.
Helping customers grow will continue forever. What’s different, and incomparable, is personal rewards of leveling up team members.
When you have your first team member it changes everything. Suddenly someone beyond you and your family is dependent on your ability to produce income. And that person might have a family that’s dependent on you.
Then you have multiple team members…
- Some, needing to support their spouse’s personal pursuits.
- Some, needing a flexible schedule to prioritize supporting their disabled children.
- Some, experienced.
- Some, their first job. Their first exposure to “corporate.” Their first time bonding with a team. Their first time challenged. Their first taste of winning.
It’s rewarding to push my team to be better than what I can give them. Of course I don’t want them to leave. But the personal rewards of seeing my team grow to be their best versions to live their best life (not mine) greatly outweighs the temporary inconveniences of them leaving.
(Don’t leave me, Cecilia!… unless you want to.) 😉
